Construction is expected to start this year on a new 13-story hotel at Parx Casino in Bensalem Township, one of the county’s largest businesses and tourist attractions.

Parx Casino is set to expand its facilities by building the 300-room, 158-foot-tall hotel complete with two restaurants and space for weddings, banquets, and conventions. There will also be a presidential suite, other high-end rooms, a spa, and fitness center.

This week, the Bensalem Township Supervisors granted unanimous approval to the preliminary and final land development plans put forward by Parx-affiliated Keystone Turf Club and Bensalem Racing Association.

The hotel has been in the works for years and is expected to be completed in 2025, Parx representatives said.

The hotel will feature an attached walkway to Parx Casino, guest rooms on 11 floors, an 800-person banquet room, and a “very high-end” rooftop restaurant on the top floor that will allow for “great views” of the Philadelphia skyline. In addition to the rooftop restaurant, there will be a coffee shop and a 260-seat restaurant in the lobby where guest and celebrity chefs will cook and offer special presentations, according to Mike Meginniss, the attorney for the project.

The hotel’s 14,000-square-foot convention center will be capable of accommodating business meetings, weddings, banquets, and other events, but not large events like the Philadelphia Auto Show.

The hotel will be Parx branded, and the company will use Marriott’s guidelines as a standard, according to Parx Casino COO John Dixon.

The building will be among or even the tallest in Bucks County.

Meginniss said the building’s height was picked after research on ideal hotel design and construction.

The casino property will have enough capacity in their existing parking areas to accommodate the hotel’s guests, Meginniss said.

While the Parx complex has been expanded and updated over the years, talk of a hotel additional has been ongoing for years. Recently, Parx added sports betting and the Xcite Center, which brings in musical acts and comedy shows.

Bensalem Township Council seemed excited about the addition of the hotel at the casino, which is a massive economic driver in Lower Bucks County.

Bensalem Township Mayor Joseph DiGirolamo said the casino has been a “great business partner” with the community.

Parx was the second of Pennsylvania’s casinos and opened in December 2006. The casino was first called Philadelphia Park Casino, but it changed its name to Parx in late 2009.
