A traffic stop escalated into a foot chase and drug bust in Bristol Township last Thursday, according to police.
At 1:08 p.m., a license plate reader alerted an officer to a vehicle with a suspended registration was in the area. The vehicle, a Toyota, was linked to the registration, but the plate was displayed on a gold Infinity sedan instead, police said.
The officer spotted the Infinity traveling northbound on Veterans Highway and attempted to initiate a stop near Rockview Drive, police said.
Despite the officer activating his vehicle’s emergency lights and siren, the driver continued into the business complex at the 1200 block of Veterans Highway, police said.
While in the business complex, the driver of the Infinity, who was later identified as 43-year-old Nicholas Campbell of Burlington, New Jersey, exited the vehicle and began to flee on foot while clutching a black bag and a tan shoulder strap bag, police said.
After a brief pursuit, Campbell was apprehended by an officer, police said.
A search of the bags revealed a “bulk quantity” of drugs, including prepackaged suspected cocaine and methamphetamine, which appeared to be intended for distribution, police said.
Authorities said they also found an assortment of medication, a black digital scale with white residue, and new packaging materials.
Campbell was charged with a number of drug-related offenses and evading arrest or detention on foot. He was preliminarily arraigned before District Judge Kevin Wagner and held on 10 percent of $300,000 bail. The bail was dropped Tuesday by a Bucks County Court of Common Pleas judge to 10 percent of $100,000.
