Silvi Materials announced plans Thursday to reactivate the railroad branch to the Riverside Industrial Complex in the 7900 block of North Radcliffe Street in Bristol Township.

At the Bristol Township Council meeting, Tim Kurtz, vice president of Silvi Materials, outlined the project and said completion is targeted for September.
The track was previously removed by Amtrak, but it will be rebuilt to facilitate the transport of materials and reduce truck traffic on local roads.
Kurtz explained that the project is funded by Silvi Materials and is in collaboration with Amtrak and Conrail.

The scope of the project includes modern infrastructure improvements to ensure a seamless crossing.
“This is going to be all modern materials. You’re not going to have a rail track that you’re going to be bouncing over in your car. This is going to be a smooth transition over the road,” Kurtz assured the council.

The rail line will primarily transport cement powder, said Kurtz.
Silvi Materials and the railroad estimated two rail crossings per week and each carrying 20 to 30 cars.
Crossing gates will be added to the new rail branch, but they are not mandated by regulations, said Kurtz.

Amtrak is currently coordinating a traffic study to address potential issues arising from the nearby Randall Avenue bridge closure.
“Right now they are putting together a traffic study for that problem. That was something I pointed out,” said Kurtz.

Silvi Materials plans to maintain the tracks on its property and anticipates an increase in staffing to 55 employees at the terminal.
The Riverside Industrial Complex also houses an international port for shipping in materials.
