The Falls Township Zoning Hearing Board approved variances for a specialized truck rental and conversion business that plans to open a facility.

PEG Rentals, which presently is located in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, and on Veterans Highway in Bristol Township, is planning to purchase the facility at 95 Lower Morrisville Road and use it for their operations.
The approved variances cover parking near the property line, the installation of a privacy fence in the front yard, and allowing 71 percent impervious surface coverage, exceeding the area’s 50 percent limit.
PEG Rentals specializes in converting trucks of various sizes to operate on transit and Class I rail lines and leasing them out.

The vehicles, which are replaced after several years, are primarily built and upfitted in-house. The company provides equipment, including bucket trucks, diggers, rotary dumps, and cement mixers on rails, according to Rus Protas, the owner of PEG Rentals.
The business deals with various national and local clients, including SEPTA, Amtrak, Conrail, Norfolk Southern, and New Jersey Transit, Protas said, adding the new location is near rail lines.

“There’s not a lot of people doing this,” he noted.
Most of the work will be conducted inside the building, with only minimal work taking place outside, said Mike Meginniss, the attorney representing PEG Rentals.
The company has experienced significant growth in recent years and is seeking additional space to accommodate its expansion, Protas said.

In presenting the plan, Protas said the new facility is expected to add approximately 30 skilled jobs, including fabricators and welders, to the township.
The site, which is located in an industrial district, is near to residential properties. However, the business is not a large trucking operation, and steps will be taken to minimize any impact on the surrounding community, Meginnish said.

The company plans to add an underground stormwater management system to handle runoff from the expanded parking facilities and erecting a 6- to 8-foot fence for privacy and security.
Engineer Larry Young noted that an existing older stormwater basin on the property will be converted into a modern underground basin.

Protas pointed to the company’s experience operating near residential areas without significant issues and expressed confidence in maintaining a good relationship with neighbors in Falls Township.
Since opening in 2015, PEG Rentals has operated near residential properties in Bristol Township without major problems, Protas said.
