The Bristol Township Council has unanimously approved the installation of a 25-foot-tall double-sided digital LED billboard along Route 13.

The decision was made last Thursday during the monthly council meeting. The new billboard will be owned and operated by Interstate Outdoor Advertising.

As part of the agreement, seven existing billboards that each approximately 300 square feet in size will be removed from the area.

The existing billboards, which are 50 to 60 years old, are located between Route 13 and Franklin Avenue in the Croydon section and the Amtrak Northeast Corridor tracks.

The new digital sign, which will be situated across from Bristol Cemetery, will be 220 square feet and placed on Amtrak property.

The current billboards have been challenging to access for updates and repairs due to the need for Amtrak’s permission, said a representative for Interstate Outdoor Advertising.

In contrast, the digital LED sign will require less maintenance and will be easier to manage, said the representative.

The LED billboard is designed to adjust its brightness based on the surrounding sunlight and darkness to provide optimal visibility.

An official from Interstate Outdoor Advertising stated that the new billboard would have the capability to display instant information on Amber Alerts and fugitive wanted posters.

The Bristol Township Zoning Hearing Board has granted several variances for the project, and the Bristol Township Planning Commission has recommended its approval.

Interstate Outdoor Advertising is anticipating to have the sign installed within six months.
