Amanda Fuller, the borough engineer, detailed the initiatives at the council meeting in February.

The work is starting with the transformation of a stormwater swale into a vegetated bioswale along Howell Street between Maple and Green streets.

The project is fully covered by two grants and will convert the existing channel behind industrial properties into a vegetated swale designed to filter pollutants, slow runoff, and promote water infiltration.

Native plants with deep roots and grasses will assist in building up the soil structure and allow water to infiltrate the ground more easily,โ€ according to a statement on the project.

Bristol Borough has been awarded $542,000 in state grants for the Adams Hollow Creek streambank stabilization project.

The project will focus on the area between North Cedar and Radcliffe streets and will build upon previous stabilization work to further mitigate erosion and instability along the creek’s bank.

“There has been major erosion and degradation of the stream bank,” Fuller said.

The project is slated for completion by next spring and is expected to prevent damage to nearby homes.

A $250,000 grant will also fund the creation of eight to 10 new parking spaces along Maple Beach Road, adjacent to the new pedestrian bridge and Public Works Building.

The area where the parking is planned.

The new spaces will help alleviate the parking strain experienced during local festivals, with Fuller citing personal experiences of parking challenges in town.

The project includes construction of a trail connecting to the Mill Street Parking Lot.

The construction is expected to commence in late fall and it is anticipated to be completed by next June.
