You Can Buy Bristol’s Former Street Sweeper

There are few things in Bristol Borough that can stir up as much spirited conversation at the riverfront town’s street sweeping program.

The borough has put up for bid its former 2005 Johnston VT650 Sweeper with 54,130 miles on the odometer.

The starting price for the street sweeper was $1,626 as of Monday morning and bidding is set to close on Friday.

The vehicle was described by the borough as having a “front motor [that] runs great,” does come with some issues โ€” a loose back motor fan and broken bolts on the gearbox, leading to the fan hitting the transition ring.

Despite these problems, the sweeper has attracted considerable interest, with 15 bids already placed.

The auction is taking place on Municibid, a popular online platform used by local governments to sell surplus items.

The auction marks the end of an era for the old sweeper, which was replaced by a newer model in 2022.

The purchase of the new sweeper cost $328,000 and was made possible through grant funding from the Redevelopment Authority of the Bucks Countyโ€™s casino impact program.

Bristol Borough has several designated sweeper zones throughout the town.

Residents can get a $15 ticket for blocking sweeping operations.

In addition to the street sweeper, the borough is also auctioning off three Ford Focuses, a 1984 backhoe, a 2009 Ford F-550 dump truck, and a 2014 police car.

Such auctions are not uncommon among local governments.

In 2016, Bristol Township sold its former armored vehicle used by the tactical team.
