There are plans in the works to demolish the final homes on Chestnut Street in Bristol Borough this spring.
During the council meeting on Monday, Council President Ralph DiGuiseppe revealed that the last property on Chestnut Street has been acquired within the past week.
The purchase, which is in partnership with the Redevelopment Authority of Bucks County, paves the way for the upcoming demolition of the remaining row homes.
“We said we’d never force anyone out of their homes, which we didn’t,” he said.
DiGuiseppe outlined the Redevelopment Authority of Bucks County’s intentions to go out to bid for the demolition project before the end of the month, with the possibility of tearing down the property as early as March.
“We’re on a fast track,” DiGuiseppe said. “We want to get this down before the spring when people have their windows open with the dust.”
“Then we’ll figure out what the borough wants to do with it,” he added.
Once the demolition is complete, the borough will explore options for the future use of the site, noting that there has been some interest in the property, DiGuiseppe said.
The initiative to purchase and demolish the homes on Chestnut and Elm streets has been funded with $1.3 million in state money and involved the seven remaining homes on Chestnut Street.
The planned demolition follows the earlier destruction of row homes on Elm Street in 2021.
