The Pennsbury School District and Falls Township police took action Monday after being notified of a concerning Snapchat post by students, according to an email sent to parents by the district.

The post, which referenced “bringing the shotgun,” prompted an investigation involving local law enforcement, Superintendent Dr. Thomas Smith and Principal Reggie Meadows wrote to parents.
Upon receiving the report on Monday, district officials contacted police, who quickly identified and interviewed the students responsible for the post.
The students involved stated that the comment was intended as a joke related to the Super Bowl, and authorities confirmed that there was no actual plan or access to weapons, the district officials said.

Despite the apparent lack of malicious intent, the administrators said that the students will face consequences for their actions.
“Valuable police and school resources were dedicated to investigating ‘a joke’ rather than providing needed support to our school and community. Please support us by having conversations with your children and helping them understand the appropriate use of their cell phones and the power of what they say online,” Smith and Meadows said.

The administrators also praised the individual who reported the post.
Earlier this month, the district dealt with a similar situation.
The Pennsbury School District has scheduled a social media presentation for parents on Monday at 6:30 p.m. at the Pennsbury High School East auditorium at 705 Hood Boulevard. It will be streamed online, as well.
