The fire happened just past 4:15 p.m. in the 50 block of Edgewood Lane. Firefighters were dispatched to the scene following reports of a blaze.

According to Fire Marshal Rich Dippolito, the blaze started when the residents were cooking, and fire ignited in the grass, which quickly spread to the side of the house.

The blaze was largely extinguished by a neighbor and passing firefighters who were in the area, according to the fire marshal.

Dippolito said that the fire was contained to the exterior of the home. It resulted in melted siding and a blown-out window.

The cause of the fire was deemed accidental and is believed to have been caused by charcoal or grease spilling from the grill onto the grass, Rich Dippolito said.
