The Pennsbury School District has cancelled classes for Tuesday, February 13 due to the 140th Legislative District special election.

Superintendent Dr. Thomas Smith emailed parents on Tuesday to alert them about the unplanned day off.
“Because voting takes place in many of our schools, all Pennsbury Schools will be closed for students on Tuesday, February 13, 2024. This day will be used to provide professional development to our staff. This day is a State-allowed Act 80 day and will not lengthen our school year,” Smith wrote.
He added: “We recognize that this was not included in our approved calendar, and we appreciate your flexibility and understanding of this unforeseen change. Open elections help make the United States the greatest country in the world; we encourage you to exercise your right to vote.”

Pennsbury School Board member Jim Prokopiak is the Democrat running against Republican Candace Cabanas in the upcoming special election.
Democratic State Rep. John Galloway’s resignation last month has opened up the 140th Legislative District seat that encompasses Falls Township, Morrisville Borough, Tullytown Borough, and a section of Middletown Township. Galloway is now a district judge who filled retired District Judge Jan Vislosky’s seat.
