Democratic State Rep. John Galloway’s resignation this week will open up the 140th Legislative District seat that encompasses Falls Township, Morrisville Borough, Tullytown Borough, and a section of Middletown Township. Galloway will fill retiring District Judge Jan Vislosky’s seat early in the new year.

In accordance with the Bucks County Republican Committee’s bylaws, more than 100 executive committee members from around the county cast votes to nominate a candidate for special elections.

Falls Township resident Joan Graves was vying for the seat, but she was not selected by the county GOP committee.

Cabanas said she is running for the seat because she knows the area and challenges faced by local families.

“I know how difficult it is to raise a family and make ends meet in this economy, and I know how important it is to fight for the working-class citizens of Lower Bucks County,” she said.

Cabanas said she will support emergency responders and they “deserve unwavering support and recognition for their heroic efforts.”

Cabanas, who has worked in home health care, said she knows the challenges faced by families due to rising health care costs.

“My goal is to fight for policies that make quality healthcare accessible and affordable for every Pennsylvanian,” she said.

The GOP candidate said she will fight in Harrisburg for the area’s “rightful share” of funding for education and tools for students.

“We are proud to nominate Candace as the Republican candidate in this critical election,” said Bucks County Republican Committee Chair Pat Poprik. “Candace shares the values of the working families in this community, understands their needs, and is ready on day one to be a fighter for their priorities.”

On the Democratic side, Donna PetreccoMelanie Bidlingmaier, and Jim Prokopiak are aiming to run for the seat.

The special election is seen as important for both parties as they vie for the majority in the Pennsylvania House. Democrats held a one-person majority until Galloway resigned.
