The school board made the move official at its public meeting earlier this week.

She will assume the role of principal at Mill Creek Elementary School on August 15 as outgoing Principal Dr. Sharon Vitella retires.

The district said a transition plan will be implemented to ensure a smooth handover.

The Mill Creek Elementary School community will have the opportunity to meet Martesi at a “Meet the Principal” event later this summer.

The district said Martesi’s selection came after an extensive evaluation process that began when Vitella announced her retirement last month. The job attracted more than 30 applicants.

A principal search committee made up of community members conducted interviews with the top 10 candidates.

Ultimately, two finalists were recommended for final interviews with the superintendent’s district cabinet.

Martesi brings a wealth of experience to her new role. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Education from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, as well as a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Holy Family University and another master’s degree in Reading Instruction/Literacy from Cabrini University.

Martesi has served as an assistant principal at the district’s high school for the past three years. Previously, she worked as an instructional coach within the district for seven years. She was a teacher before that for a decade. In addition, she also served as the Head Field Hockey Coach for five years.

Martesi was a member of the Bucks County Leadership Development Fellowship Cohort and honored with the Inspiring Women ESPN Verizon Innovative Learning Award,” the district said in a statement.

โ€œThe search stakeholders were very impressed with Mrs. Martesiโ€™s candidacy,โ€ said Bristol Township School District Director of Curriculum and Instruction Amy Coleman. โ€œShe is an experienced and accomplished administrator with an established legacy of promoting student achievement. We believe she will be great for the students of Mill Creek and a beneficial instructional leader for the school.โ€
