With a line snaked around the building, the new 5,500-square-foot location with gas pumps swung open its doors in the Fairless Hills Shopping Center along Lincoln Highway around 8 a.m.

The first 100 customers received limited-edition “Wawa Coffee Hoagies Kindness” T-shirts and free coffee was provided to those who visited the new store.

Wawa officials and store staff, Falls Township Supervisors Erin Mullen, police officers, and firefighters helped cut the ribbon to officially open the new store.

There was a hoagie making contest between the Falls Township Police Department and Falls Township Fire Company. The contest ended in a tie.

Wawa will donate money to the nonprofit Advocates For Homeless and Those In Need and a local food bank on behalf of the emergency responders.

Wawa leaders said customers are part of the company’s family. They noted staff has visited customers who have ended up in the hospital, know many by name, and customers are often seen holding the door for the next one.

“At Wawa, our core purpose is fulfilling lives every day, and since our first store opened, we’ve believed that we all have a role in making this world a better place,” said Chris Gheysens, Wawa’s president and CEO. “Our associates deliver experiences and often create emotional connections with customers that go beyond what traditionally happens in a retail environment, and we look forward to welcoming old friends and making new ones in this wonderful community.”
