The township has been awarded $91,818.18 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) as part of the Assistance to Firefighters program.
Don Harris, who oversees the Middletown Township Department of Fire and Emergency Management and serves as the fire marshal, said the money will be used to purchase turnout gear and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
The new equipment will replace older gear and some that is borrowed, Harris said.

The new turnout gear will meet the current National Fire Protection Association requirements.
Turnout gear and SCBA apparatus are key tools to protect those heading into a burning building.

The Middletown Township Department of Fire and Emergency Services handles fire inspections, fire prevention, and supplements daytime emergency response.
In addition to Middletown Township, Morrisville Borough received $46,818.18 from the same program to support its emergency services.
“This grant is critical in supporting our local fire departments and ensuring our men and women have the tools they need to respond to emergencies,” said Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick, a Republican from Middletown Township who announced the grant award.
