The crash happened just after 6:30 p.m. Sunday on southbound Route 1 under the West Interchange bridge that connects West Gilliam Avenue and West Highland Avenue on the Langhorne Manor Borough and Middletown Township border.

Langhorne-Middletown Fire Company Chief Frank Farry said firefighters and emergency medical crews were called for a report of a one-vehicle crash with entrapment.

The first crews on the scene found the driver was removed from the vehicle by good Samaritan who pulled up to the scene, but the driver was already deceased, Farry said.

A passenger was taken by the Penndel-Middletown Emergency Squad to St. Mary Medical Center as a trauma patient, Farry said.

At the scene on Monday morning, parts of the vehicle remained. It appeared the vehicle traveled on the median between the highway and access road before striking the bridge support and then ending up along the access road.

Route 1 and the access road were blocked for several hours Sunday evening and night as police investigated the crash.
