Earlier this month, the Falls Township Parks and Recreation Department opened a completely overhauled roller hockey rink at the municipality’s biggest park.

The roller hockey rink at Falls Township Community Park has been overhauled over the past year.

“We realize it has been a long time coming. We appreciate your patience and understanding. We feel this is a much improved amenity from what was there for years. Our hope is this will be enjoyed for many years to come,” the parks and recreation department said in a statement.

The work at the rink involved replacing the dasher board, restoring the fencing, painting and marking the surface, and sealing cracks.

Last year, the Falls Township Board of Supervisors awarded a bid of $96,539.63 to General Asphalt Paving Company Inc. to upgrade the roller hockey rink.

The project had previously been put out to bid, but the lone bid at the time was too high, which led to a retooling of the project.

A total of $55,029 of the work was funded through a state Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program grant.
