Middletown Township’s Firefighters Park will be getting a bit bigger.

Last week, the Middletown Township Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to purchase a 1.94-acre lot adjoining the park in the Parkland section of the township.

The township is buying the lot from Comcast for $11,500. Township Manager Stephanie Teoli Kuhls said a $10,000 PECO grant will be used to fund most of the purchase.

Comcast has owned the lot but doesn’t use it.

The new open space be made part of the 13-acre Firefighters Park that features a playground, tennis courts, basketball courts, and two softball fields.

County property records show the property has been owned by area cable companies since the 1960s. The first owner of the property was early cable company Telemax of Lower Bux.

The supervisors also voted to approve advertisement for bids for a project to reconstruct the golf cart paths at the Middletown Country Club, which is owned by Middletown Township and sits partly in Langhorne Borough.

Private firm Agro Golf Corp. is in year 14 of a 15-year lease for the country club and runs the day-to-day operations. While the township is advertising for the bids, the club operator will repay the township for the work through future lease payments, Teoli Kuhls said.

The country clubs need to reconstruct the aging and cracked golf cart paths and make some drainage improvements at the site.
