Bristol Township is hoping it can get grant funds to help cover the cost of several community projects.
Bristol Township Council last month supported Community Development Director Van Strother’s proposal to apply for a portion of leftover federal COVID-19 relief funds for infrastructure. The grant request was filed by Bristol Township as part of the Community Development Block Grant Programs, which aids communities that meet certain household income and population guidelines.

The township is looking get funding for the planned overhaul of the Bristol Township Senior Center and construction of a new Parks and Recreation Department building next to the senior center. They are also looking to overhaul the Marie Lowe Resource Center on Schumacher Drive and purchase approximately 690 manhole casting and covers to replace older ones.

Van Strother said the projects were identified because of their need and to provide improved facilities for residents.
The senior center, officials have previously said, is older, needs to be modernized, and needs more room. The parks programs could benefit from a place of their own as they have grown in recent years.

The Marie Lowe Resource Center is an older building that needs upgrades. The plans call for a facelift and construction of a recreation area, including a stage, in the rear of the property.

The manhole covers would replace 674 existing ones, and provide about 20 more for ones that might be buried or unmapped, Strother said.
A full tally for the projects wasn’t released.
