A familiar face is coming back to the Bristol Borough School District.

The school board announced Thursday evening that Dr. Broadus Davis, who served as the Bristol Borough superintendent from 2003 until 2010, will return next fall to serve as the interim superintendent.

Since Superintendent Dr. Rose Minniti left the district for a job in the New Hope-Solebury School District last October, Dr. Tom Shaffer, the district superintendent who retired in 2019, has filled the role. However, under state law, Shaffer can only serve as the interim superintendent until early next fall once he hits a year in the position.

School Board President David Chichilitti said the district still needs to work out a deal with Davis related to pay.

The school board will temporarily halt their efforts to find a full-time superintendent until early in 2023, Chichilitti said.

Davis will fill the interim seat once Shaffer’s fill-in term ends and will hold the seat through the end of the 2022-2023 school year when the school board hopes to have a full-time superintendent in place.

Davis, who grew up in Bristol Borough, is a longtime educator and administrator. He started working in the Bristol Borough School District in 1976, left for administrative roles in the Neshaminy School District in 1993, and returned to Bristol Borough as a superintendent in 2003 before his 2010 retirement.

Davis oversaw construction of the new Snyder-Girotti Elementary School and conversion of the former Social Security Administration office on Farragut Avenue into the district administrative offices. He assisted the district with a special learning program in 2014.

Since leaving Bristol Borough, Davis has worked as a interim administrator and consultant at several schools in the region. The U.S. Navy veteran has also served on the Bucks County Community College Board of Trustees.

Also at the meeting, the school board accepted the retirement of Bristol Borough High School Assistant Principal George Gatto, who has worked in the district for nearly 40 years.

Gatto, in a letter, offered to help the school district in any role they need him in the future.
