Another progressive step along the line of improving the appearance of Mill Street was taken this morning when the corrugated iron awning was removed from the front of the Whitaker Shoe Store.

Mr. Whitaker announces that he does not intent to have another awning erected, but is going to co-operate with the Business Men’s Association which desires to have all awning removed from the main business thoroughfare of the town.

After the work of removing the awning has been completed, the front of Whitaker building is to be painted and improvements made to make the general appearance more attractive.

Gradually, the awning are disappearing from Mill Street. One by one the merchants are co-operating in the scheme to have all such eye-sores removed from the street.

The move is being agitated by the Business Men’s Association and its main object is to have the lighting of the street better distributed.

While the majority of merchants of Mill Street have been aroused to the change in business conditions along this street there are still a few who are holding back the putting of the street in the list of progress which is apparent in most “live” towns is the criticism of the men who are interested in the improvement of the street.
