For years, aspiring dancers have often believed they needed to head to New York City or Los Angeles to receive elite training and professional mentorship.

The Dance Ground in Newtown is working to change that narrative.

The award-winning performing arts studio in Newtown is expanding its offerings this summer with new collegiate dance training, music instruction and adult classes, while continuing to attract nationally recognized instructors and provide performance opportunities typically found only in major entertainment markets.

“Our vision has always been to provide the same caliber of training, mentorship and opportunity that dancers would find in New York or Los Angeles, right here in Bucks County,” said Managing Director Liz Fitchett Jovovich, in a news release. “Whether a student dreams of Broadway, a college dance team, a professional career or simply wants to experience the joy of performing, we believe every dancer deserves access to exceptional instruction.”

Preparing dancers for college and beyond

One of the studio’s newest initiatives is its inaugural Level Up College Dance Team Intensive, scheduled for Saturday, July 18.

Designed for high school students interested in collegiate dance programs, the intensive will feature instruction and audition preparation from coaches representing Penn State University, Saint Joseph’s University, the University of Delaware, along with the head coach of the New York Knicks City Dancers.

Participants will receive firsthand insight into college dance team auditions, choreography, technique and the expectations of collegiate programs while training directly with those involved in selecting future team members.

Professional instruction close to home

Under the artistic direction of siblings Andreas Jovovich and Priscilla Garner, The Dance Ground has built a reputation for combining recreational instruction with pre-professional training.

The faculty includes choreographers and educators with experience on Broadway, television, film and commercial productions, giving local students access to instructors whose resumes stretch well beyond Bucks County.

Later this summer, the studio will again host its annual Summer Intensives, welcoming guest artists from New York and Los Angeles for advanced training in ballet, contemporary dance, jazz and musical theater.

National stage experience

The studio’s reputation has continued to grow beyond southeastern Pennsylvania.

In 2025, students performed during the prestigious Chita Rivera Awards in New York City, helping raise more than $35,000 for the NYCDA Foundation while sharing the stage with nationally recognized performers. Earlier this year, dancers also appeared in the New York production of Destiny Rising, providing professional-level performance experience for young artists.

The Dance Ground’s competitive company, The Jets, has also earned recognition at competitions across the country.

Expanding beyond dance

The studio is also broadening its educational offerings with the addition of private instruction in voice, piano, guitar and ukulele, allowing students to develop multiple performing arts disciplines under one roof.

Adults are also finding new opportunities at the studio through expanded programming that includes Adult Tap and Adult Hip Hop classes taught by instructor Jahzaire “Surge” Sutton.

Studio officials say the goal is to create a welcoming environment for performers at every stage of life, whether someone is pursuing a professional career or simply looking to stay active and creative.

“Our greatest success isn’t measured by trophies,” Jovovich said. “It’s measured by the confidence our students gain, the friendships they build and the opportunities they discover through the performing arts.”

As fall registration begins, The Dance Ground continues offering programs ranging from beginner recreational classes to elite competitive training, college preparation, professional intensives, music education and adult instruction, all aimed at giving Bucks County families access to high-level performing arts education close to home.
