The nonprofit Friends of Bolton Mansion announced Monday they are looking to repair recent damage to the property, which sits on a hill on Holly Drive in Bristol Township’s Levittown section.

“We have damage to the front steps which was caused, in large part, by people sledding down the stairs over the years. We patched the steps and shortly after there is video of young children with their parents scraping the mortar away. We have also had teenagers force open the shutters, break the original metal lock hardware, attempt to force open the basement doors, and break the small handicap ramp several times in the rear of the porch area,” they said in a social media post.

The mansion property is under 24-hour video recording, but the nonprofit has not decided to post any video of those who caused the damage.

“We’ve had the police out several times to speak with individuals caught on camera. We’re asking the community to spread the word and to educate others (especially kids and teenagers) on this vandalism to help us keep this historic treasure safe from vandalism,” the organization said.

The front steps have been fenced off, but the damage continues to happen.

Repair work to the mansion has been estimated to cost $10,000.

“We are asking for our community’s assistance,” the organization said.

Residents can make donations to the organization on their website.

Bolton Mansion, which was a homestead for the Pemberton family, dates back to the late 1600s. The mansion was once on several hundred acres and the property shrunk in size over the years.
