Carl W. Miller, 96, of Mifflintown, passed away on Saturday, January 1, 2022 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Born on September 21, 1925 in Lewistown, Mifflin County, he is a son of the late Charles E. and Estella “Stella” (Spigelmyer) Miller.
On August 31, 1949, he married his surviving wife, Mildred L. “Skip” (Hefright) Miller with whom he was blessed to share over 72 years of marriage.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Richard A. Gray of Eugene, OR, Carol A. Kaufman of Lewistown, Carla M. Renson of Mifflintown, and Alice I. Miller of Mifflin; eleven grandchildren, twenty one great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and several generations of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son in law, Barry Renson; one grandson, Jeffrey C. Marks; one great granddaughter, Samantha Lynn Renson; and two brothers and two sisters making him the last of his generation.
Carl was employed and retired as a Laborer with U.S. Steel in Fairless Hills, Bucks County with over 30 years of service.
Mr. Miller honorably served our country during World War II from 1943 to 1946 in the United States Army where he obtained the rank of Corporal. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was one of the last surviving soldiers of the Cactus Division.
His memberships included the Free Spring Church of the Brethren in Mifflintown, the American Legion Post #298, VFW Post #5863 both of Mifflintown, the Lewistown Moose Lodge 143, and in earlier life had ran with the Penndel – Middletown Rescue Squad for over 15 years.
He enjoyed working with his hands, taking care of his yard, being outdoors, and in earlier life, enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping.
Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 7, 2022 at the Goodwill Cemetery, McAlisterville, with Pastor Terry Smith officiating where full military burial honors will be accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Miller’s memory can be made to the Free Spring Church of the Brethren, 670 Free Spring Church Road, Mifflintown, PA 17059.
