Georgine’s Jr. Eatery Closing, But Main Georgine’s Restaurant To Remain Open

The popular Georgine’s Jr. eatery in Bristol Township is shuttering its location on Veterans Highway (Route 413).

After nearly 30 years, Georgine’s Jr. will be serving up its last meal Sunday.

The larger, more formal Georgine’s Restaurant on Newport Road in the township will remain open. That restaurant has been in operation since the Nagle family opened it in 1978.

“Closing Georgine’s Jr. was a hard decision, but we felt it was time to focus on our main restaurant during these difficult times with limited staff and non-stop rising food costs that made it difficult to operate,” said Dave Reifsneider, a co-owner of both locations.

Georgine’s Jr. fared well during pandemic, but the staffing problems and fluctuations in the food pricing led to management looking at focusing solely on their main eatery in recent months, Reifsneider explained.

A hot labor market has led to staffing shortages at many businesses and required some employers to offer pay increases and incentives to maintain and hire staff across the nation. Food prices have been rising due to inflation and supply chain problems, causing headaches for restaurants.

Georgine’s Jr. was known for its walk-up serving style. The eatery transitioned to takeout service during the pandemic.

Georgine’s Jr. was popular for its fair pricing and hearty meals.

“We always tried to give our customers great food at reasonable prices and value for their hard earned dollars. We can no longer do that under these current market conditions,” Reifsneider said.

Rumors of Georgine’s Jr. impending closure swirled on social media the past few days. The restaurant confirmed the news Thursday.

“So sorry to hear this. If I didn’t want to cook I would go to Georgine’s Jr. for dinner. I will miss the restaurant. The lobster bisque soup was very good. Thank you,” one customer wrote on social media.

“My family will miss you. You have been our go to place when we wanted a good meal at a great price. Thank you for all the years you have been there for us. So sorry to see you go. God Bless all of you,” another customer said.

“We appreciate the people who have always come to pick up a meal at Georgine’s Jr.’s during lunchtime or on their way home from work. We hope that they will continue to come to the original Georgine’s Restaurant,” Reifsneider said.

No staff will be losing their jobs, as the workers are needed to fill positions at Georgine’s Restaurant, Reifsneider said.

Both locations are owned by the management.

Reifsneider said the Georgine’s Jr. location is expected to be put on the market and could be sold.

However, Reifsneider said he has some potential ideas for the Georgine’s Jr. location if it doesn’t sell. After the holiday season, he will have more time to think about its future.

“Right now, nothing is off the table,” he said.
