A Bristol Township woman has thrown her hat in the ring for the 2022 Republican congressional primary.
Caroline Avery, a resident of the township’s West Bristol section, announced her entry into the race recently. She said she is “pro-freedom, pro-America, and pro-Constitution.”

The Republican, who has lived in Bucks County for years but originally hails from California, said she has worked as a bartender, forklift driver, salesperson, assistant to horse trainers, and personal buyer of antiques and art. She stated her various life experiences and personality have primed her to be a candidate for Congress.
Avery said she wasn’t very political until then-candidate Donald Trump started making headlines that grabbed her attention in 2015.
“Having been a longtime employee and then a successful employer, a wife and a homeowner, Trump’s message really hit home,” she said on her website.

Avery said she is turned off by Fitzpatrick’s more moderate approach in office and that he did not support some of Trump’s policies. The first-time candidate said she called Fitzpatrick’s office and wrote him, but she did not receive responses.
“A few of my friends started hounding me to run for his seat and they finally pushed me over the top,” she said. “They said that I was the only one that they knew who really understood what was going on, knew what needed to be done, and had the passion and ability to really do something about it.”

While Fitzpatrick did not vote for Donald Trump in 2016, he said he voted for him last year and received an endorsement from Trump in the final stretch of the 2020 election. Fitzpatrick stated Trump should be censured but not impeached after the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.
The Bristol Township resident said she is running as an “America First” candidate. She added she believes COVID-19 mitigation measures are taking people’s freedom, there needs to be a crackdown on crime in big cities, tech companies are censoring people, government agencies are being used to enforce political feuds, vaccination mandates are “un-American” and “evil,” the border needs stronger enforcement, is a strong advocate for the Second Amendment, and believes the election process faces “corruption” and needs to be reformed.
Avery joins Upper Bucks County resident Bradley Lanning in primarying Fitzpatrick.

Fitzpatrick has easily beat back primary challenges in the past.
Avery and Lanning face the challenge of raising enough money to be competitive in the First Congressional District. As of September 30, Fitzpatrick’s campaign had $1.5 million in the bank.

Avery said she will not be deterred.
“I’m just the older woman who is running, and I can’t be pushed around,” she said.
