Man Gets 17 To 34 Years For Park Shooting

A Philadelphia man is headed to prison for many years for his role in 2019 shooting at a Bristol Township park.

On Friday, Taariq Alfons Norris, 26, was sentenced to 17 to 34 years in state prison by Bucks County Judge Theodore Fritsch. He was additionally ordered to pay $1,758.82 restitution to the Pennsylvania Crime Victims Compensation Fund, according to the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office.

Alfons has been held behind bars since pleading guilty in the middle of his trial in August to attempted murder, aggravated assault, conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, persons not to possess a firearm, possession of a firearm without a license, and possession of an instrument of crime.

Norris and another man, who has yet to be identified by police, pulled up onto Ashby Avenue in Bristol Township on March 28, 2019 after sunset. Norris and the other man walked from their vehicle to the Marie Lowe Recreation Park near the basketball courts off Schumacher Drive and opened fire from different directions on the victim who was standing by his white Chrysler, authorities said.

Norris and his co-conspirator shot off multiple rounds, striking the victim, police said.

The victim then pulled a gun and shot back, hitting Norris, police said.

The still unidentified shooter ran off from the scene.

Bystanders came to the aid of Norris and transported him to Lower Bucks Hospital for treatment.

The victim was also taken to Lower Bucks Hospital for multiple gunshot wounds. He was then flown to Temple University Hospital for treatment. He spent several weeks in the hospital, authorities said.

In initial statements, police said a dispute may have led to the shooting.

Norris has a prior robbery conviction and was not allowed to possess a firearm at the time of the shooting, police said.
