Van Flies Off I-295, Driver Trapped


A van went off I-295 and ended up on its side Monday night.

The crash happened on eastbound I-295 near the Durham Road overpass around 9: 45 p.m.

The white 2019 Ram Promaster van flipped onto its side after leaving the highway and plowing through a large sign. The Penndel Fire Company said one person was trapped inside.

Firefighters removed the windshield of the van and also made entry through the rear doors, the fire company said.

The 46-year-old male driver from Boothwyn, Delaware County was removed through the rear doors and transported to St. Mary Medical Center by medics.

A 14-year-old passenger was also taken to St. Mary Medical Center.

Pennsylvania State Police said the driver lost control, causing the van to leave the highway.

The Penndel, Newportville, and William Penn fire companies responded to the crash, along with the Bucks County Rescue Squad and the Penndel-Middletown Emergency Squad.
