Lightning Blamed For Sunday Fire

A home was damaged by a fire caused by lightning early Sunday lightning.

The fire at the home in the 400 block of Flour Lane in Middletown Township’s Langhorne section was reported just after 3 a.m. Sunday.

Langhorne-Middletown Fire Company Chief Frank Farry said flames were shooting from the garage roof of the residence, which is owned by a longtime fire company member.

The residents escaped without injury.

It took about 45 minutes for fire crews to bring the flames under control, Farry said.

The Middletown Township Fire Marshal’s Office determined the blame was caused by a lightning strike that happened during overnight storms.

Aside from the damage to the home, a vehicle was destroyed.

In addition to the Langhorne-Middletown Fire Company, the Newtown, Northampton, Parkland, and Yardley-Makefield fire companies worked to put down flames. The Penndel-Middletown Emergency Squad was also at the scene.

Around the same time, crews from the area were also assisting fighting a blaze in Bensalem Township.
