More than two days after a volunteer firefighter riding his bicycle along Route 13 was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver, investigators were still trying to locate the striking vehicle and driver, according to law enforcement.
The Bucks County District Attorney’s Office and the Bristol Township Police Department said late Thursday afternoon that the investigation into the death of Daniel Santiago, 53, in Bristol Township remained underway.

Santiago, of Bristol Borough, had been riding his bicycle on the right lane of the southbound side of Route 13. Around 12:55 a.m., 9-1-1 dispatchers received a call that that a person had possibly been struck. Bristol Township officers responded and found Santiago in the right shoulder of the road in the area the gravel lot at 5521 Route 13, between Green Lane and Beaver Dam Road. Santiago, who was wearing dark-color clothing, was deceased at the scene had “obvious trauma to throughout his body.” A short distance away from Santiago’s body on the sidewalk, a badly damaged black bicycle was located. The bicycle had severe damage to the rear tire and wheel assembly, authorities said.
Investigators said the 9-1-1 caller did not witness the crash, but officers would like to speak with anyone who did.
The striking vehicle, according to law enforcement, is likely to have front-end damage.

Earlier this week, friends and a family member of Santiago’s recalled him as a good man who often was riding his bicycle.
“Daniel was very much loved,” Angelita Santiago, his cousin, told LevittownNow.com.

“Danny was one of the most genuine and kindhearted people I’ve ever known,” said Lori McKelvey, a friend of Santiago.
Santiago was raised in Bristol Borough and had been involved in the volunteer fire service for more than 30 years.
“If you see Danny’s social media pictures, you will see him wearing his station shirts or gear or around one of the trucks or just at the station. Danny truly enjoyed being a member of the fire department. And the fire department enjoyed having him,” Goodwill Hose Company said in statement.

Santiago’s family set up a fundraiser to collect donations to help pay for funeral and burial costs.
The Bristol Borough man’s funeral is set for Friday morning.
