The new data gives a preliminary look at the county’s population between 2010 and 2020. More finalized population data will be released in the coming months as the 2020 Census tally is completed.
The numbers show the county saw its population grow from 625,256 residents in 2010 to 627,987 in 2020, a .4 percent increase. The roughly 2,700 resident growth would keep Bucks County as the state’s fourth most populated county behind Montgomery, Allegheny, and Philadelphia counties.
The data also indicates a drop of 283 residents from the 2019 estimate. The 2020 estimate was of 627,987 residents and 2019 showed 628,270.

The data reveals Bucks County’s population growth, which peaked at 113 percent between 1950 and 1960, has slowed in recent decades. While final numbers for 2020 have yet to be released, the county had a 10.4 percent increase between 1990 and 2000 and a 4.6 percent increase between 2000 and 2010.
Since 1950, which was before Levittown was constructed and most of the suburban development had yet to come, Bucks County’s population has grown by 334 percent from 144,620 to 627,987.

Pennsylvania is estimated to have seen its population rise from 12,702,379 million in 2010 to 13,002,700 million in 2020.
Correction: The data has been updated to reflect the state’s population rose from 12.7 million to 13 million.
