Bristol Borough School District Superintendent Dr. Broadus Davis will retire effective June 30, which will close out his second stint leading the small district.

Davis told the school board he “had a great” 12 years as superintendent.

“Bristol is my hometown,” Davis said. “Born and raised here. And I believe that we can always agree to disagree, but when it comes down to our kids, we come together to do what we need to do.”

School board members voted this week to approve an agreement with the Bucks County Intermediate Unit to launch a search for Davis’ replacement.

The outgoing superintendent was contracted to earn $183,000 for the 2025-2026 school year, according to public records.

Board members praised Davis this week for his service to the district, which serves more than 1,000 students across an area of just under 2 square miles.

Board President Anthony Smith said Davis leaves “big shoes to fill.”

Board Member John D’Angelo credited Davis with expanding educational opportunities for the borough’s students. He highlighted an increase in the number of students taking Advanced Placement courses and the expanded options through a partnership with Bucks County Community College.

Davis, a U.S. Navy veteran who has also served on the Bucks County Community College Board of Trustees, first began working for the Bristol Borough School District in 1976. He left the district in 1993 to take on administrative roles within the Neshaminy School District before returning to Bristol Borough as superintendent in 2003.

After retiring from the superintendent job in 2010, Davis returned to lead the district again in 2022. He also assisted the school system with a special learning program in 2014.

During his career with the district, Davis oversaw the construction of the Snyder-Girotti Elementary School and managed the conversion of a former Social Security Administration office on Farragut Avenue into the district’s administrative building.

In other business, the school board hired Edward Crane to serve as the new elementary school principal. Crane, who will earn an annual salary of $137,000, replaces Dr. Julie Balcer, who is departing the job.
