The use of the funds use were determined by a newly-formed Gene Epstein Donation Fund Committee made up of social workers, school counselors, and nurses. The committee identified families in need and connected them with local resources and referrals, and carefully assessed what amount of money was needed.
The school district said they were able to use the donation to provide for several families experiencing hardships who were in dire need of rent, food, clothing, auto maintenance, and more.
โGene has been extremely generous and the families are very grateful,โ said Regina Jones, coordinator of health services at the school district.
