A man is accused of fleeing Pennsylvania State Police in Bristol Township early Tuesday morning.
A trooper was on patrol along Veterans Highway when he spotted a 2007 Toyota Avalon with its center brake light out. The vehicle made an illegal U-turn and the trooper conducted a traffic stop at Veterans Highway and Spruce Street around 12:40 a.m., according to state police.

As the trooper approached the vehicle, he noticed the temporary registration tag was fake and the driver – Luis Daniel Colon, 22, of Philadelphia – was displaying signs of “unusual nervousness,” state police.
It was noted in court papers that there was suspected drug paraphernalia observed in the vehicle by the trooper that stopped the car, state police said.
During questioning, Colon said he had smoked marijuana three hours prior and tobacco wraps spotted in the sedan were related to that, state police said.

Colon reportedly consented to a search, which uncovered 17 small bags containing suspected heroin and fentanyl, an empty bag often used to hold drugs, and clear straws containing suspected drug residue, state police said.
As the trooper told Colon he was under arrest, the 22-year-old city man ran off and then ran back to his car in an attempt to flee in the vehicle, state police said.

Colon was removed from the vehicle with force, state police said.
A trooper was “accidentally” pepper sprayed and had abrasions to an arm and knee, state police said.
A later search of Colon’s vehicle uncovered approximately 13 bundles of suspected heroin and fentanyl, 12 containers of suspected crack concaine, and 23 containers of suspected methamphetamine, according to troopers.

Colon was charged with possession with intent, flight to avoid apprehension, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance, and several traffic offenses. He was arraigned by on-call District Judge Gary Gambardella and jail on 10 percent of $400,000.
