The union that represents local Catholic high school educators has rejected an offer from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.

The Association of Catholic Teachers Local 1776 voted to turn down the offer from the archdiocese that would have offered a $1,200 pay raise over the two-year deal, but it would allow the church to layoff teachers if enrollment drops more than 3 percent due to the pandemic, according to CBS Philly.

The union represents about 500 teachers across 17 catholic high schools, including Conwell-Egan Catholic High School in Bristol Township.

The union’s contract ran out at midnight on Monday.
