The death of a 58-year-old man in Bristol Borough on Thursday has been ruled a suicide.

The man’s death by gunshot wound on Thursday afternoon was initially considered suspicious. His body was located at the property around 3 p.m. in the 1500 block of Trenton Avenue.

Late in the day Friday, the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office said the man’s death has been ruled a suicide.

Borough patrol officers and detectives and county detectives were involved in the investigation.

Police spoke with bystanders and neighbors outside the home on Trenton Avenue throughout Thursday afternoon and evening.

A source with knowledge of the incident but not directly involved with the probe said the death of the man piqued the attention of officers and detectives when they were called to the scene Thursday afternoon due to prior police calls to the neighborhood.

Early Friday morning, Eric John Haas, 26, who lived at the residence, was charged with simple assault and harassment in connection with an incident that allegedly happened Monday, August 3 at the address. In the incident, he allegedly grabbed his mother and violently shook her for no reason.

The charges were filed as detectives investigated the death at the home Haas lives with his family.

Also in the court papers, county detectives said Haas’ mother advised them Thursday that he had terrorized her and stated to her previously that he wanted to kill everyone in the house and himself.

Haas was being held as of Friday at the Bucks County Correctional Facility on $100,000 bail. He was released later on unsecured bail

Authorities did not release any statements on the connection between the investigation and the overnight arrest of Hass, a resident of the home. But with the death being ruled a suicide, it is unlikely they will release substantial comment on the events surrounding the arrest and death investigation.
