Brownsville Road Bridge Replacement Expected To Start In 2022

After years of discussions, PennDOT has told Middletown Township that they plan to start work on replacing the Brownsville Road bridge starting in 2022.

In a post on the township’s website, official said PennDOT’s plan to replace the bridge that connects Middletown Township and Lower Southampton Township over the Neshaminy Creek is expected to start in summer 2022.

PennDOT has talked of replacing or rehabilitating the 250-foot bridge for years.

In a PennDOT project report from fiscal year 2019, the state transportation department estimated the total cost of the bridge replacement would be $9.1 million.

Middletown Township said the project would require .07 acres of right-of-way and .08 acre of temporary construction access at Periwinkle Park along Brownsville Road.

A PennDOT bridge condition report lists the precast concrete span as being in fair condition.

The nearby West Maple Avenue bridge reopened in 2015 after being replaced.
