A Sesame Place employee remained in the hospital Monday after being attacked on Sunday evening.
The 17-year-old male employee at the theme park in Middletown Township suffered an injury to his jaw and tooth when male and female suspects attacked him after he reminded them to wear a face mask due to the pandemic around 5:15 p.m., police Lt. Steve Forman told LevittownNow.com.

The teen needed surgery at St. Mary Medical Center on Monday following the assault.
Forman said the teen Sesame Place employee had an interaction with the couple about face masks earlier in the day.
Gov. Tom Wolf has required face masks when people will be in close contact with one another or indoors at public spaces. Face masks, social distancing, and sanitizing have been shown to be simple ways to cut down on the spread of COVID-19.

After the attack, the couple fled the popular tourist attraction, Forman said.
The couple behind the attack have not yet been identified, but detectives have a tag number for the vehicle they left in. The tag came back to an address in New York City. Forman said Middletown Township police are working with the New York City Police Department on identifying and locating the suspects.

“We’re hoping to get IDs and a warrant and get them locked up,” he said.
Forman said detectives were reviewing surveillance video on Monday and sorting through statements about the assault.
“On Sunday, August 9, a guest assaulted and seriously injured one of our team members. We’ve been in close communication with the family of our injured team member, and are wishing for a full and speedy recovery. The health and safety of our guests and team members is our top priority, and violence of any kind is unacceptable and not tolerated at our park. We are cooperating with local law enforcement on this ongoing investigation. Any further questions should be directed to them,” Sesame Place Public Relations Manager Dana Ryan said.

Sesame Place opened late last month with reduced attendance and other safety measures during COVID-19.
