Wawa wants to make company history in the area.
The company has submitted plans to Falls Township officials for a drive-thru only location, the first in the Pennsylvania-based firm’s decades in business.

Wawa’s plans call for a 1,840-square-foot drive-thru only location to be constructed next to the recently-opened Wawa store with a gas station at the corner of West Trenton Avenue and Pine Grove Road in the Morrisville section of Falls Township. The location is also next to the new Rite Aid.
The township received the plans for site on Wednesday and the company plans to begin construction in August. The drive-thru Wawa is expected to open in December.
In a statement from the township, Wawa Real Estate Project Engineer Mike Redel said the company picked the location due to the high traffic volume at the intersection. An average of 25,000 vehicles pass by each day with a large residential population surrounding it.

“Wawa is very excited about our planned drive-thru location in Falls Township. This is a brand-new venture for us, and we think this location is the perfect place to test it,” Redel said.
While Wawa recently announced a drive-thru window will be added to an existing store in Westhampton, Burlington County, New Jersey, the Falls Township concept makes the new location only accessible to the public via the drive-thru window.

Customers will order their items and staff will bring it to the window.
“It is meant to serve drive thru customers only, with no customer access to the store,” Redel said. “The menu will be limited to our most popular items, with a focus on value bundles with chips and a drink.”
Wawa officials said the new location will also offer curbside pickup.

Falls Township officials said Wawa explored more than 50 potential sites for the location before settling on the community.
“Particularly in the wake of COVID-19, with concerns over minimizing person-to-person contact, Wawa’s drive thru only store just makes sense,” Supervisors Chairperson Jeff Dence said. “Falls Township is proud to help Wawa pioneer such a forward-thinking development.”

Wawa said they plan to spend more than $2 million to develop the first-of-its-kind store. About 25 workers, including four full-time staff, will man the drive-thru location.

There was a battle to develop the site, formerly the location of an Acme, that included an $11 million lawsuit against nine businesses and residents who opposed plans for the site in 2015. According to county court records, the lawsuit was settled and discontinued last summer.
