SEPTA officials said the reduction in service allows for increased cleaning services on trains.

โ€œWe are pleading with our customers โ€“ if you donโ€™t have to ride, please donโ€™t,โ€ said SEPTA General Manager Leslie Richards. โ€œWe need to reserve space on our buses, trains and trolleys for those who need to get to essential jobs, or access life-sustaining services.โ€

Due to decreases in rider revenue, SEPTA, one of the largest public transit systems in the country, hasย instituted 10 percent pay reductions for the general manager and executive team, temporarily eliminating overtime pay and freezing new hiring. The transit system, in a statement, said they will continue to look to lower costs.
