The future remains uncertain for the Village Park Academy.

Superintendent Dr. William Gretzula wrote a letter to the community last week that stated the school board will hold a special public hearing on Thursday, March 19 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Fallsington Elementary School in Falls Township on the future of academy.

The superintendent said the hearing will “initiate an evaluation of the educational program at Village Park and consider potential closure.” It will also include a presentation by administration on enrollment, staffing, the facility, and related costs. Public comment will also be sought.

“Please be assured that no decision has been made at this time as to the future of Village Park Academy, and no final decision will be made until June. This public hearing is a requirement of the Pennsylvania School Code,” Gretzula wrote.

For the upcoming hearing, the public will have three minutes per person to make comment to the school board.

The Village Park building on Unity Drive in Falls Township closed as an elementary school in June 2013.

The building was leased by contractor LifeWorks until 2018. For the 2018-2019 school year, the district opened a program for students with social and emotional needs at the academy.

Pennsbury officials said last year that the academy brought in $89,000 from outside districts who sent students, but lost $250,000 in rent that previously was paid when the LifeWorks program rented the facility.
