The new year will start with a major transition in the county seat.
The Bucks County Commissioners will have a Democratic majority for the first time since 1988 with the swearing in with incumbent Commissioner Diane Ellis-Marseglia and Bob Harvie.

State Rep. Gene DiGirolamo, a Republican from Bensalem, will be the lone GOP commissioner. Outgoing Republican Commissioner Robert Loughery was not reelected.
Republican Commissioner Charley Martin is retiring after 24 years in office.
Democrats are also taking over the Clerk of Courts, Coroner, Register of Wills, and Treasurer offices.

Between now and January, offices will have to be packed and cleared and the current Republicans will have to hand over their portfolios to the newly-elected Democrats as they are sworn in come the new year.
“I’m thrilled for the people who won, and I have a sense of sorrow for those who did not,” Marseglia said last week. “We all work for the good of the county, and we’ll make sure that any transitions will go well.”

“I think they’ve done a great job … of running their various offices,” Martin said. “We’ll see how the new folks do, and all the best to them.”
Loughery congratulated the winners of the election.
