Preliminary and final land development for a proposed medical marijuana facility has been approved in Falls Township.
On Tuesday evening, the Board of Supervisors voted 3-0 to approve preliminary and final land development for phase two of MLH Exploration medical marijuana facility at a 32-acre lot at 150 Solar Drive in the Keystone Industrial Port Complex. Supervisor Vice Chairman Jeff Dence and Supervisor Brian Galloway were not in attendance for the meeting.

An official from MLH Exploration received approval to build a 49,898-square-foot greenhouse addition to the current building. The expansion will be used as a growing and processing facility.
David Clapper of MLH Exploration said the site could be expanded as the firm grows.
MLH Exploration is partnered with Jefferson University Health System and has received approval from the state.

Previously, company officials said the goal for MLH Exploration is to focus on medical marijuana and conditions it can treat.
The company plans to open its first medical marijuana dispensary in Center City in Philadelphia later this year, Clapper said. He added that the company is permitted to open five more retail locations but none are planned for Falls Township.

In the past, MLH Exploration officials said the company expects to bring about 50 jobs to the area.
“Following Falls Township’s local ordinance, which governs medical marijuana grower and dispensary operations, the facility would be secured with a fenced-in area and steel sides up to 12 feet tall. Cameras would be in place and running continuously, according to MLH representatives. Access would be permitted only through electronic devices and access codes would be required,” the township said in a statement.
The Supervisors have previously made the case that the Keystone Industrial Port Complex is a good location for medical marijuana growing and processing facilities because of the large amount of space, its industrial surroundings, easy access to highways, and existing utilities.
