A lifelong Middletown resident who is a military veteran is the newest member of the Middletown Board of Supervisors.
Doug Downing was sworn in Tuesday evening to replace the spot left vacant as Bill Oettinger resigned due to a move out of the township.

Downing lives in the township with his wife and kids. He works as an electrical engineer and served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant, Vice Chairman Mike Ksiazek said.
Growing up, Downing worked for Middletown cutting the grass at parks around the township, Ksiazek pointed out.
District Judge Daniel Baranoski swore in Downing as his family stood by him.

Downing is filling out the rest of Oettinger’s term that ends on December 31.
Oettinger announced last month that he planned to resign due to the move. His resignation was accepted by the Supervisors before Downing was sworn in.

Oettinger was on the ballot as a Republican for re-election in the fall, but he will be replaced by former Supervisor Pat Mallon, who will join incumbent Republican Supervisor George Leonhauser on the ticket.
Mallon and Leonhauser will face off against Democrats Anna Payne and Dawn Quirple in the November election.
