After nearly six years serving on the Middletown Board of Supervisors, Bill Oettinger is resigning and moving out of the township.

Oettinger made the announcement Monday evening at the Supervisors’ meeting. His resignation letter will be submitted on August 21.

“It’s my honor to serve the township residents – that was the job from the start. There is a great staff here … just wonderful people that work in the building to serve the public,” he said.

Oettinger was on the ballot to run as a Republican for reelection in the fall, but he will have to be replaced.

“I wish I could have finished my term but family comes first and you gotta do what you gotta do,” he said.

The Supervisor, who works as the fire marshal in Lower Southampton, joked about being in the majority and now the minority. He thanked Democratic Supervisors Chairman Tom Tosti for his transparency.

Noting the problems that local volunteer fire companies face with recruiting volunteers, Oettinger encouraged residents to step up to help the community.
