Former Levittown Man Sentenced For Stabbing Fellow Inmate

A inmate at the Bucks County Correctional Facility is headed to state prison for attacking a fellow prisoner while in custody.

Martin Andrew McLoughlin III, 28, who previously lived in Bensalem and Levittown, was sentenced Thursday to eight and a half to 22 years in state prison for stabbing a fellow inmate inside the county correctional facility in Doylestown Township last October, according to the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office.

Before Bucks County Judge Jeffrey Finley, McLoughlin entered a guilty plea on charges of aggravated assault, assault by prisoner, and related offenses.

Prosecutors said McLoughlin attacked the fellow inmate while at the prison’s dining room during breakfast last October 9. Just before the attack, the two men were reportedly talking while in line.

The attack was recorded by the prison’s camera system. It showed McLoughlin walking over to the fellow inmate from behind and stabbing him as many as five times before correctional offices separated the two.  The inmate was stabbed in the head, neck, upper back, and side.

“If I wanted him dead, he would be,” McLoughlin allegedly told investigators.

McLoughlin said to the investigators that he attacked the fellow inmate as a “reprimand” that had been planned for several days. He said the attack happened on October 9 because he thought the inmate was being transferred to state custody.

McLoughlin attacked the fellow inmate using a “shank” that was made from a piece of wood that was sharpened.

Prosecutors said McLoughlin chuckled while evidence was read into the record during Thursday’s court hearing.

“By your own words and behavior in this courtroom, you’ve made clear you can’t be in society,” the judge said. “If this had been a murder, this would have been the case study in premeditation.”
