After more than three years of conversations and planning, construction on the new skate park at Middletown Community Park is underway.
On Monday evening, a groundbreaking dedication for the new 8,600-square-foot skate park designed by locally-owned 5th Pocket Skate Parks took place. Middletown Board of Supervisors members George Leonhauser, Mike Ksiazek, Tom Tosti, and Amy Strouse were in attendance along with State Rep. Tina Davis, a staffer from State Rep. Frank Farry’s office, and township staff.

“[The skatepark] is something that the kids in this community really deserve,” said Tosti, who serves at the Supervisors chairman.
The park, which is being built, is expected to be opened by Halloween.
“I think this is going to come together really quickly,” Strouse said.

Tosti said the skate park is an investment in the park and the youth of the township.
Earlier this year, the Supervisors accepted a $325,000 bid from 5th Pocket Skate Parks to build the recreational facility. A state grant, township funds, and $72,000 in private fundraising from supporters, businesses, Waste Management, Brian’s Harley-Davidson in Middletown, Dogwood Skate Shop in Langhorne Borough, and Barking Spyder Pro Shop in Bristol Borough are helping pay for the work.

Sloan Palder, co-owner of 5th Pocket Skate Parks, explained that the slate park is a street plaza design and is custom built for the township.
Jesse Clayton, the other co-owner of 5th Pocket Skate Parks, grew up skating at Middletown Community Park.
Roughly 20 years ago, a prefabricated skate park opened at the park and was demolished in 2016 after it became unsafe.

The skate park is among a number of planned upgrades at the public space.
