The closed Maple Shade Elementary School was being taken down on Friday.
Demolition of the closed elementary school began earlier this summer and crews worked this month to begin taking down the building with excavators.

The Maple Shade school is on a V-shaped 5.7-acre lot off Newport Road in Croydon. Maple Shade was the oldest continuously operating public school building in the county until its closure. School district officials have told LevittownNow.com that the Maple Shade building is not registered as a historic landmark despite rumors in the community.
In 2018, the school board awarded a nearly $600,000 contract to Premium Excavating and Demolition of Falls Township to tear down the closed Lafayette on Fayette Drive and Maple Shade elementary schools. The Lafayette school remained standing as of Friday afternoon.
The district has been unable to sell the two school properties, but they are still working to offload them.
