Aldi customers waited in line to shop at the grocery chain’s fresh location in Middletown.
The new store opened in the Target shopping center on East Lincoln Highway around 9 a.m. Thursday. Customers were greeted outside with some promotional items and the store’s smiling staff. Inside, fresh stocked shelves, expanded offerings, and a bright new produce area greeted shoppers.

Levittown resident Bob Weinnelt was among those in line and was ready for the store to open. He said he enjoys the produce offerings and German food sold at Aldi.
For Levittown resident Bob Green, the prices are what draw him to Aldi and keep him coming back.

The new layout of the store means that customers can find more selection of products, including of organic, gluten free, and fresh foods, according to Aldi Operations Director Shayna Winters.

While giving an overview of the store, Winters noted that the freezer section hadn’t grown dramatically. She explained that Aldi customers in the area were buying more and more fresh fruits, produce, and meats, leading to expansions of those sections.

“Fresh food has really grown for us,” she said.

Aldi, which also operates a store in Bristol Township, opened their previous location less than a mile away off Woodbourne Road in 2004 and closed it earlier this week in advance of the new location opening.
Across the country, Aldi is in the process of a years-long expansion to grow their footprint. The company said it expects to add 25,000 new jobs by the end of 2022.
