For the first time since the 1990s, Middletown is putting together a new comprehensive plan.

The blueprint of sorts for the township’s future development and goals will include input from residents and stakeholders in the community.

On Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Municipal Center, the township will hold an open house that will allow stakeholders to share their thoughts with township staff and planners.

“This highly interactive event will allow attendees to provide input on each of the main categories listed above as well as any other areas of interest. Your feedback will guide the planning process as the Comprehensive Plan is completed,” an email to residents said.

The new plan will look at sustainability, transportation, recreation, housing, and redevelopment. The completed comprehensive plan will serve as a roadmap for township staff, elected officials, developers, residents, and business owners going forward.

“Updating the comprehensive plan is an exciting opportunity to prepare Middletown for the future and start working toward the community we want to become,” said Supervisor Amy Strouse. “I can’t wait to hear what our residents have in mind, and hope we get a big group of folks to join us at the open house.”

In 2018, the township received funds from the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission to help update the comprehensive plan that dates back more than two decades.

To go along with the planing process, Middletown has launched a photo competition connected to the comprehensive plan.

“Not all community input has to be verbal – you can show us some of your thoughts by sending in photos of your favorite parts of the community or areas that you think can be improved. The winner will receive a prize bundle that includes Six Flags and Sesame Place passes, gift certificates to local restaurants, and movie tickets. Some photos might even make it into the Comprehensive Plan. You can email your photos to CompPlan@middletownbucks.org, and you can track the entries on a live map. Voting will take place in the fall,” the township said in their email.

Middletown, which is mostly developed, has several areas primed for updating or developed. It connects to major highways and includes some of the larger employers in the county.
